Every year the American Library Association sponsors Teen Read Week.   Below are summaries of some of the favorite books read by students at Goodyear last school year and the reasons that made these their favorites.

A Taste of Blackberries

A Taste of Blackberries
by Doris Buchanan Smith

"This book is about a young boy who has to face the death of his best friend and learn that he will always be with him in his heart.   It's my favorite because it shows feeling toward the reader, and it shows the bond between two best friends."
Matt, grade 6

Homecoming
by Cynthia Voigt

"This book is about four kids who are left alone in their mom's car.   They now must find someone to love them and take them in before higher authorities are involved.   It's my favorite book because it shows how, if people hold together and stay strong, things which seem impossible can happen."
Lacie, grade 7

The Boxcar Children
by Gertrude Chandler Warner

"This book is about kids that run away and live in — where else?   It's my favorite because it reminds me of my friends and family."
Jessica, grade 7

The Boxcar Children

Scholastic Encyclopedia of Space
by Jacqueline & Simon Mitton

"This book is about the Universe and everything in it — ranging from stars to black holes.   It's my favorite because I am a really huge fan of astronomy, and I also study it."
Marcelous, grade 8

The Kid Who Became Presdient

The Kid Who Became President
by Dan Gutman

"This book is about a kid who has a chance to change the world.   It's my favorite because I learned a lot about being a president or how to be a president."
Del'Vonta, grade 6

Inuyasha
by Rumiko Takahashi

"This book is about a girl who gets sent back into the warring states of feudal Japan.   It's my favorite because I love to read manga.   It also has plenty of suspense and action."
Matthew, grade 8

Fallen Angels
by Walter Dean Myers

"This book is about a person named Perry who gets sent to Vietnam and faces danger.   It's my favorite because it's full of action, comedy, and suspense."
Kenneth, grade 8

Fallen Angels

In the Bottom of the Sea
by George Sullivan

"This book is about deep sea creatures and about shipwrecks from a long time ago.   It's my favorite because I learned about the Titanic and what had happened to it.   I also learned about fishes you never heard of.   You even learn about the coelacanth, a fish we thought was extinct."
Alex, grade 6
